Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.

Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth.

4.5 stars for the The Will!!!!

A big THANK YOU to Kristen Ashley for creating Magdalene! I was so excited to hear that there would be a new series, and KA did not disappoint. In this book, she has set the foundation for another winning collection of stories.

Here’s the blurb:

Josie is not your average KA heroine. She doesn’t let it all hang out like the other KA girls. She plays it all close to the vest. She is aloof and proper. She only gives of herself to a small select few. She is kind and polite, but very careful with her heart. This is her shield.

Jake. Oh Jake. Let’s take a moment to bask in the beauty that is Jake Spear… Never mind, a moment will never be enough. He is swoony, sexy, funny, and full of goodness. How can you not fall in love with a hot dad who owns a boxing gym and cares for his community??? He is officially at the top of my book boyfriend list. He is Alpha Male perfection. I love how gentle and careful he is with Josie. I love how he loves her.

Together they are magic. The storyline is fantastic. I found myself utterly intrigued from the first page. Josie and Jake have amazing chemistry. You want them to succeed from the very beginning, but that is just part of it. Jake’s children really brought their love full circle. I found myself wishing I was sitting with this wonderful family watching Sunday football and eating chips. Warmth flowed through me as I read about each child and how they supported each other. I think that it is important to note that the kids were not written as secondary characters. They were written as part of the love story. It was clear that Jake came with those kids. The kids each had very well written and distinctive personalities. They each had age appropriate issues to deal with and I found myself caring about each one of them and where their stories go.

As for the rest of the characters… you’re going to love them! No, you are going to want to move to this tiny Maine town and get a mani/pedi just so you can keep up with the local gossip! As I was reading, I kept thinking, “Is this one going to get a book?” or “Will this one show up in the next story?” and so on.

I think it is only fair to give a shout out to Lavender House. This is the beautiful home where Josie lives. I need to mention it because Lavender House was almost another character in this story. She stood strong, beautiful and unwavering throughout the story. For more than one, she was a place of refuge. She served as a sanctuary to all. She deserves to be mentioned.

Overall, this was a warm and loving story that created fabulous groundwork on which to build the rest of the series. I laughed and cried and stated several time, “OMG! OMG! OMG!” I am truly looking forward to the next book.

With this book, I choose a nice crisp Riesling. Light and flirty with just a twist of drama to make it interesting. 😉

My thanks to Kristen Ashley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. It was my absolute pleasure!
