I received this book for free from the author or publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to start reading this. I just read the trilogy last year and I absolutely loved Kellan. I already knew that I loved this story and I knew what the outcome was. This only made me slightly less anxious reading this. I honestly had a hard time getting through Thoughtless, not because it wasn’t good, but because it was so good and there was so much tension and heartache that it was hard to bear sometimes. Reading this same story from Kellan’s POV was everything that I hoped it would be. All of his emotions and his thoughts were really eye opening. This novel was not simply a retelling of Thoughtless. It was almost like reading a completely different story. It added a lot to the overall story. I simply could not put this down until I had finished.
So if you’ve read Thoughtless (which you absolutely should read before reading this) you already know how this story plays out. Classic love triangle with lots of back and forth and the guy looking like the asshole throughout the story. After reading Thoughtful, your opinion will change. Reading how the air in the room changed the minute Kiera walked in, how much Kellan really loved her from day one, how much it killed him every time she chose Denny over him, all of these things just made me love Kellan even more. Hearing just how bad his childhood was completely broke my heart. It also gives you some perspective on his actions, and also lets you know how he felt that all of the women he was with were the ones that were using him. He is a real person, with real feelings and not just some asshole player that likes to use women.
“No time spent with you is wasted”
I did have the feels all over again though. The heartbreak is there. It’s a little more so in seeing just how broken Kellan is. In some ways it was like pouring salt in a wound and feeling the pain again, in other ways it was great to know he was having just as much if not more pain than Kiera over what was happening. His feelings for her were so much more than physical, and they were unexplainable. They were just drawn together from the moment they met. Reading all the gory details of his childhood was gut wrenching. We only got small snippets of his past from Kiera, but the details are laid out in all their ugliness in Thoughtful. It was sad to see that these scars carried over into his adult life and affect every relationship he’s ever had.
I loved every page of this book and hope to read it again. 5 Stars and a bottle of Tequila! Enjoy!
