When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

“A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.”
I loved Overruled, but OMG Sustained did something to me. This book melted my heart and I felt completely and one hundred percent in love with Jake Becker. What. A. Man.
Jake is a bad ass lawyer. No doubt about it. He has slayed dragons and conquered the baddest the world has to offer, but he never saw Chelsea McQuaid coming.
I loved everything about this story. I loved the progression of the storyline and the evolution of Jake and Chelsea for that matter. The book had the classic Emma Chase humor we have come to know and love, but like Overruled, this book has so much more than expected. The story is deep and touching. I longed for the characters when it ended. For a sassy romcom, this book touches on some pretty thoughtful situations.
“When you take everything else away—money, clothes, nice cars, big houses—all a man has is his word. That he says exactly what he says. If a man doesn’t have his word, he´s not a man.”
Sexy, fun, touching, and chalked fun of humor! It was everything I was hoping for when I picked it up and so much more. I cannot wait to read Appealed.
5 stars for the second book in what is quickly becoming a favorite series. Pair Sustained with a crisp white wine and drink it after the kids are in bed. Cheers!
