“I grew up an only child, which means you can look at my toys – I’ll show them off, in fact – but god help you if you lay a finger on them.”
I wish I could say I loved this one. A lot of people did. Sadly, Sociopath fell short for me. I never connected with the hero or heroine. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I kept waiting for it to happen. I really wanted it to. I love a great
dark read and I think this book had the potential to be that, but I just never cared enough about the characters to be interested in how dark their story became.
In the beginning I was actually bored. I hate to say that, but I was. The opening should have been fun and full of intrigue. We are introduced to our anti-hero and it is told from his POV. Normally I love this. I love the guy’s point of view! And I love an anti-hero, but this guy was no good. He just didn’t work for me, so the introduction of our sociopath felt dragged out. I actually put the book down for several months before trying again. It still didn’t work for me.
Like I said, the story had great potential and a lot of people loved it. There were moments that I would have really loved if I had liked either character. It wasn’t all bad and the writing was good. I am definitely not counting Lime Craven out. I will seek out her next book for sure. Her writing is strong and her world building is great. I look forward to reading her next novel.
