Experiment in Terror #2

With Book Two of the Experiment in Terror Series, Perry Palomino and Dex Foray trade in the stormy Oregon coast for the unforgiving deserts of New Mexico.

In the forgotten town of Red Fox, New Mexico, a Navajo couple is tortured by things unseen and by motives unknown. Wild animals slink through their house in the dark, a barrage of stones pound their roof nightly, and mutilated sheep carcasses are turning up on their property. Armed with a camera and just enough to go on, Perry and Dex travel to the desolate locale, hoping to film the supernatural occurrences and add credibility to their flailing webcast. Only their show has a lot more working against them than just growing pains. Tested by dubious ranch hands, a ghost from Dex’s past, and shapeshifting deception, the amateur ghost hunters must learn to trust each other in order to fight the most ancient of myths…or die trying.

“For once, I can feel everything. Every emotion, every feeling, every sense. I’ve never felt so alive. How ironic.”

I am crazy for this series! I read this one a while ago, but I wanted to write the review regardless. It was just too much fun not to.

Dex and Perry are one of my favorite book duos of all times. Perry is awkward and unsure of herself in normal everyday situations, but she is spectacular under the strangest of circumstances. Dex is arrogant and foulmouthed. Together they are a mess and fabulous. In this, the second installment of the Experiment in Terror Series, Perry and Dex are colleagues and sort of friends. But then again, with Dex, does anyone really know where they stand?

“And with madness comes the light.”

In Red Fox the EIT team head to New Mexico and find themselves surrounded by the creepy and unknown. For me, this book is even scarier and more disturbing than Darkhouse. The best part of this book is that we finally get a hint of vulnerability from Dex and Perry finally feels the like she and Dex might have more in common than she originally thought. This is nice because her growing crush on Dex may not be entirely one-sided. But things are never as simple as that…

As for the mystery and paranormal features of the story, they were fabulous. I had the heebie-jeebies for days after reading this one. Karina Halle has a wonderfully sick mind. I love it. In fact, between the Dex and Perry partnership and the spine-chilling explorations they embark upon this series is completely addicting.

“I was hoping you’d come out and get me.” I put my hands on my hips and cocked my head, pondering that revelation. “Well,” I said, feeling truthful. “I’m always going to come and get you.”

5 Kickass stars and pair it with a little fire water for good measure.
