I received this book for free from the author or publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
“A heaviness settle on my chest as I zeroed in on her eyes. They stood out even in her mess of brown waves and dark stage makeup. The clear blue color pierced right through me. They were resolute and narrowed with a fierce intensity, and portraying every damn emotion in the book of love.”
This story starts off in a whirlwind and pretty much never slows down. This is definitely insta-lust/love done right. Adeline and Leo lock eyes during her performance and they are both hooked from there. Things are complicated as they both come from very different worlds and Leo has ties to Adeline’s ex, who is a world class asshole. When money and power are involved things can get very ugly, very fast.
I loved the alternating POV, between Leo and Adeline. Sometimes when authors do a collaboration things can get lost or muddled. This was definitely not the case with these two. The book was seamless and the story kept flowing, not backtracking and retelling. There were many things that were hidden and needed to be revealed, and they were done slowly, but in such a way that kept you were eagerly turning the pages.
I really liked Adeline. She was strong and independent and willing to do whatever necessary to achieve her dream. She was also human and when backed into a corner she made a bad decision, seeing it as her only way out. I also really enjoyed her relationship with Ivan, her dance partner. He was protective, but not overbearing. They were equally supportive of each other, and seeing as he was really her only friend she depended on that. Leo was a little bit of an ass and had some communication problems, but he really wanted to be with Adeline. He worked on some issues within himself and with where his life was heading in order to make that happen. There are lots of ups and downs and twists and turns in this fast paced story. The connection between Leo and Adeline is instant and intense but they are both aware and acknowledge that this is not normal, so even if insta-love is not your thing, I think you would find this story enjoyable.
I definitely want to read some of their individual work and hope they do more collaborations.
4 stars and a bottle of bourbon! Enjoy!
