NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NOW A STARZ ORIGINAL SERIES • Here is the story that started it all, introducing two remarkable characters, Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser, in a spellbinding novel of passion and history that combines exhilarating adventure with a love story for the ages.

Unrivaled storytelling. Unforgettable characters. Rich historical detail. These are the hallmarks of Diana Gabaldon’s work. Her New York Times bestselling Outlander novels have earned the praise of critics and captured the hearts of millions of fans.

OUTLANDER

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.

Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

Diana Gabaldon is a genius! I know I’m late coming to the Outlander game but I was blown away! James Fraser is the ultimate book boyfriend, and Claire is one of the best heroines I’ve encountered.

I couldn’t imagine being thrust into another time period, let alone one so different from my own. I would’ve been dead within the first few days, no joke. Granted Claire had the advantage of knowledge of the time period from her husband’s interest in his family history but still. So many situations required her to use her wits combined with the minimal knowledge she possessed. Her skills as a combat nurse in World War 2 also were helpful in her finding her place among the scots of 1740’s.

I really appreciated the innocence that Jamie possessed despite all the things he had been through in life so far. The fact that he was still a virgin…whoa, absolutely unheard of in life and literature. Male leads are almost never virgins. His character embodies every fantasy women have. He is well built, tall, kind, and intelligent. Where do I sign up to be Mrs. Fraser? All joking aside this story is so well written and put together with the history of the time.

I loved that reading this story made me want to learn. I had no idea what the Jacobite rebellion was or who it concerned. Thanks to the love I felt for this story I researched and learned something new. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series and catch up on the show.

I give 5 stars to Outlander and would pair it with the best whiskey you can get your hands on!
