Interview with Joanna Wylde Book Cover Interview with Joanna Wylde

Joanna Wylde is the secret identity of an international library spy who has travelled the world in search of exactly the right book to read. Despite her endless efforts, she's still seeking the Ultimate Story -- a story so powerful, so incredible that time itself stops while it's being read, kittens spontaneously spring forth from rainbows, and unicorns bow their heads in praise. Joanna's hobbies include manatee wrestling (six time north Idaho champion), arguing about the pros/cons of the Oxford comma and refusing to accept that Chicago style should trump AP. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions. It is a huge honor to have this opportunity!

Let’s start from the beginning. Your books are filled with great detail and authenticity. What kind of research goes into writing about motorcycle clubs?

“I’ve done a lot of research over the past two and a half years. I started by reading books, then moved on to talking to real bikers and people in clubs. These days I rely on my friends in motorcycle clubs to answer questions for me, and so far they’ve been incredibly helpful. For example, one of my MC friends reads an early draft of each book to tell me what details I may have gotten wrong. The last two books she hasn’t really found anything, so I’m taking that as a sign that I’m learning!”

How did the Silver Bastards series come to be?

“The Silver Bastard MC was actually featured in my very first book, Reaper’s Property, and I always intended to expand into their territory. The characters and clubs are very vivid and read in my head, so I have a constant backstory running through my mind as I write things, so there are always events happening during the books I write that I don’t actually explore. It just felt like the right time to explore this one :)”

In Silver Bastard you made reference to the rich history of the area where the Silver Bastards and Reapers rule. Is this area special to you?

“I live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, which is where the Reapers books are set, so it’s very special to me. I love it here, and I love the history of the area. The Silver Valley itself is about 30 miles from my home, and we’ve been visiting there for sixteen years now. I love it and was very excited to share it with my readers.”

Puck, like all your men, is fabulously imperfect. Do you have men like him in your life?

“Is there such a thing as a perfect man? All the men in my life are imperfect, some more fabulously than others ;)”

What can we expect from this new series?

“This series will have a little more variety than the Reapers series, as it’s centered on a location, rather than a club. That gives me more freedom to explore as a writer, and that’s really exciting to me.”

What is next with the Reapers?

“Reaper’s Fall is the fifth book in the series, and it will come out in November of 2015. It’s Painter and Melanie’s story — characters my readers have already met in earlier books and have been requesting. I’m writing it right now.”

There are a lot of MC books out there, but your books stand out with your fantastic balance of drama, sexiness, and wit. Are there any authors that you can’t get enough of, and why? Do you have any mentors?

“Um, I think Kristen Ashley is an amazing author, and she’s been very generous with her time and guidance toward me.  Kristen Hannah reached out to me right after Reaper’s Property came out and helped me in incredible ways. I thought she was gracious and generous then, and now that I’ve learned more about the industry, I realize just how much she extended herself for me. I’ll always be thankful to her. I feel very lucky to have quite a few supportive authors I talk to regularly.”

Will you be attending any events this year where your readers have an opportunity to meet you?

“I’ll be at the Tulsa book signing in May and Love N Vegas in July. I’m also traveling to Melbourne, Australia, in October. (woohooo!!!!)”

“Thank you so much for inviting me!”

A little taste of Silver Bastard…

Time served…

Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward–full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.

Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She’s been terrified of him ever since, but she’s even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from… But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She’s living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can’t ignore. She has to go back, and there’s only one man she can trust to go with her–the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.

Puck will help her again, but this time it’ll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants…
