Hopeless Book Cover Hopeless
Colleen Hoover

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

“Not everyone gets a happily ever after. Life is real and sometimes its ugly and you just learn how to cope”

Yes, I know, I am extremely late to the CoHo party!  But damn I am glad I finally made it. I have also been reading her books in reverse order, so I am just now getting to Sky and Holders story. At first this starts off as a typical YA, but as with any Hoover novel, there is so much more to be revealed. Sky is a home schooled girl, entering public school for her senior year in order to make college more attainable. She quickly learns that high school is not all it’s cracked up to be. When she meets Dean Holder, she is all at once attracted to him and completely put off and slightly afraid of him. There is an instant, unexplaineable connection. This is where the typical aspect of the story ends. The reasons behind their draw to one another are so deep, and so hidden that not all is revealed until the end

.I may be gushing, but I just cannot say enough how much I love Colleen Hoover! This story is so layered. With every turn of the page, a small piece of the puzzle is revealed. Some parts you know are coming but nothing can prepare you for the full on heartache you are about to experience. The connection between Sky and Holder is so deep and so much more than cute girl meets hot guy and falls in lust with him. Their bond is real and unbreakable. Yes, Holder displays some semi scary behavior in the beginning, however, once you understand why he feels and behaves the way he does.

There are some very heavy topics that are dealt with in this story. However, they are dealt with in the most delicate and respectful way possible. Nothing is done gratuitously. Everything that is talked about is done so respectfully and with the sole purpose of giving the reader a deeper insight into the characters.

There were an awful lot of real tears shed during this book. Some of them were tears of pure sadness, but many of them were tears of happiness. Tears because you just want them to find their HEA so badly.  The last 60 or so pages were just a steady stream of waterworks.

5 Extremely bright stars. Pair this one with Smirnoff Ice! I cannot wait to read Holders story! (and anything else that this woman writes!!)
