I am always at a loss when I try to review a Ginger Scott book. My words feel inadequate and unworthy. Her books always have a way consuming me and if I ever get through one without crying it will be a miracle. I am often left with a book hangover of epic proportions. Cry Baby was no exception, in fact it may be the most heartbreaking book I have read in quite some time. I do like to read to escape, but I also like to feel like what I’m reading is realistic and relatable. This story is raw and relevant to things that are happening today. Everyday there are real stories just like this one happening all over.
Tristan is good kid who is trapped by his unfortunate circumstances. He is smart and caring and desperately wants to be free of the life that was handed to him. When he meets Riley things get even more complicated for him. It’s hard enough for him to protect himself let alone having to worry about someone he cares about.
I almost made it to the end without shedding a tear, but alas I ended up sobbing before I was done. Scott has a way with her writing that makes you feel as if you are in the story. That these characters are people that you know. People you care about and are rooting for. She makes you feel their heartaches and their victories. As with every one of her books, I cannot possibly recommend this story enough. The writing will draw you in, the characters will steal your heart and the story will consume you. 5 Stars! Enjoy!
