An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.

As Hayden and Tenley navigate their newfound but slightly unstable relationship, they want to trust each other, but Hayden is hiding a dark and shameful past that he doesn't ever want Tenley to find out about. And Tenley has secrets of her own that could make Hayden run away forever. When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley's past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side...or run?

“Everyone has scars, Tenley.
If we’re lucky, they’re only on the outside”.”

When I started this book, I thought that it was the same old story I have seen time and again. Bad boy meets damaged girl. You know the story. I am sure you have read it too. Luckily, this was not that story… entirely. We still have the bad boy tattoo artist and the damaged girl who meets him. They have secrets. They have steam. There is resistance and obstacles. It all seems the same, right?

This book is different. Unique. Like coming up for fresh air.

If you like stories about broken girls and the bad boys who save them, this is will go to the top of your favorites list!

“I want you, only you, all of you, for as long as I can have you.”

Hayden was my favorite. I felt connected to him. He was tormented by guilt. He had so much regret in his past and it haunted him. Followed him everywhere. He used his art as a way to express himself and left his heart on his clients’ sleeves, er, so to speak. I loved that being a tattoo artist wasn’t just his job. He loved what he did. He needed the outlet for his pain. It was beautifully described throughout the book. He took it seriously and had his own code of ethics. Yeah, I liked Hayden.

Tenley was, as mentioned before, broken. After experiencing serious trauma, she meets Hayden. Her patience with him was inspiring. She recognized that he was keeping the major parts of his past from her and she allowed him to share in his own time. Tenley was cool too.

“I was petrified of what he made me feel. After having no one for so long, the possibility of filling the emptiness was almost unimaginable.”

I never felt like they were playing games. There was no ridiculous drama that could have been solved with a simple conversation. They obviously needed to communicate and open up, but that kind of stuff takes time.

I was overwhelmed with emotion as I read. Oh man, this book will tear your heart out and put it back together again! This book was darker than others in with the same concept. Guaranteed to draw out all the feels!!!

4.5 Stars for this hauntingly moving book! Pair it with a Gladiator Shot!
