I received this book for free from the author or publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Meredith Duran weaves a wonderful tale in The Lady’s Code of Misconduct. This story tells the tale of a young lady named Jane who is left in the care of her uncle after the death of her parents. Janes uncle is only focused on the rather large inheritance left to her. To gain control of said fortune Janes uncle plans to marry her off to his son. Archibald is a rather grotesque character that is so beneath Jane it’s not even funny. Jane finds an unlikely ally in her uncles associate Crispin Burke. Mr. Burke gives Jane all the advice she needs on how to avoid a marriage to her cousin in exchange for a small piece of information.
When Mr. Burke is the victim of a crime that leaves him on his death bed Jane seizes her opportunity to get out from under her uncle’s thumb. What she didn’t expect was for Mr. Burke to survive. Now Jane is tied to a man she completely despises. Will she survive this twist in her plan?
The language and writing is so smooth and beautiful. The growth and evolution of the main characters is well written. I thoroughly enjoyed watching a character who was kind of deplorable turn into this amazing, forward thinking, and completely lovable character. I am very excited to read more from Meredith Duran and the Victorian romance genre.
I give four stars to Lady’s Code of Misconduct and would pair it with a Brandy Cassis
